FAP iOS Instructor Station

The FAP iOS Instructor Station is a web app that turns an iPad or tablet into the instructor remote for the FAP Trainer A320. From the tablet you can trigger faults, sounds and calls, operate doors and cabin commands, without touching the simulator screen.

Requirements

You need an active FAP iOS license: it is the switch that enables the app, and it is separate from the FAP Trainer license. You will also use the same installation code as your FAP Trainer, since both apps share the /fap-ios/XXXX link. On the tablet, use an up-to-date browser such as Chrome.

Use cases

With the tablet alone you can practice cabin procedures without a screen simulator: the app sends commands directly to your hardware over the local network. With the FAP on screen, the instructor triggers scenarios from the iPad while the simulator is projected. And in the full setup, with FAP and hardware, the tablet controls real mechanisms such as the smoke machines from anywhere in the cabin.

Audio plays on the device where you open the app: if you need more volume in the classroom, connect the tablet to a sound system.

The FAP iOS works in kiosk mode: it opens without a login, just like the FAP Trainer screen controller.

On the tablet, open the URL flightdemy.com/fap-ios/XXXX, where XXXX is the same installation code as your FAP Trainer, which you find in the configuration panel, Hardware tab. The tablet binds to the first device that opens the link; if it is opened on another device, it will see a message that the code is already bound. To change tablets, first unbind from the configuration panel, Kiosk access tab, of the FAP iOS app.

Automatic fullscreen

In the Kiosk access tab you can enable automatic fullscreen: the app enters fullscreen on the first tap on the screen. Browsers require that first user gesture, just like with the FAP Trainer.

Offline use

The app needs internet to validate the license when it opens. Commands to your hardware travel over your local network, so once the app is open the tablet and the controller only need to share a router.

The sidebar organizes the instructor controls into seven sections.

Audio

Ambient sound, with cabin music and announcements, and Effects, with one-shot sounds such as chimes, alarms and bangs. Everything you upload in the configuration appears here organized in folders.

Effects

Quick access to the most used sound effects during a session.

Cockpit

The cabin signs controls: seat belts, no portable devices, emergency exit lights and cabin ready. With hardware connected, these controls reach your physical panel.

Doors

Door and slide operation: open, close and arm or disarm the slides of the main pairs, plus the WL and WR service doors.

Faults

The simulator faults, grouped: Smoke Simulation with lavatory smoke detection, hardware smoke machines 1 and 2, the electrical fault and the remaining cabin faults such as water/waste or temperature. Each fault can be shown, hidden or renamed from the configuration, as covered in the next article.

Calls

Call simulation: passenger left or right, lavatory, cabin crew FWD and EVAC CMD, the evacuation command with its alarm.

Cabin

Cabin adjustments such as door pressurization, the cabin press alert.

The FAP iOS app configuration panel, which you open from My Apps by pressing Configure, has four tabs.

Ambient sound

Upload the audio files that will appear in the Audio section of the app. Organize them in folders: each folder is a tab on the tablet. Recommended formats are MP3 or WAV.

Effects

Upload the sound effects for the Effects section. Use short descriptive names: these are what the instructor will see mid-session.

Faults

Here you decide exactly what the instructor sees in the Faults section. Every fault has a toggle to show or hide it: disabled faults do not appear on the tablet, which is ideal for adapting the app to each training scenario. The two hardware toggles, SMOKE MACHINE 1 and 2, have a text field for the name the instructor will see: use your installation names, for example Forward cabin smoke and Rear cabin smoke.

Kiosk access

The kiosk mode URL, the bound device status with the unbind option, and the automatic fullscreen toggle.

Press Save configuration after any change and reload the app on the tablet with a hard refresh to see it.

The FAP iOS sends commands directly to your controller over the local network: you do not need the FAP Trainer open to use the tablet with hardware.

Network requirements

The tablet and the controller must be on the same router, since the app uses the device local IP. The controller must also be paired and active, which you check in the FAP Trainer configuration panel, Hardware tab, Controller card.

Connection status

The top button of the app, with its two dots, shows the status. The left dot indicates the hardware connection: green when the app talks to the controller, red when it does not. Tapping the button opens a panel with the details, device name, IP address, last ping and status, and from there you can retry the connection.

Which commands reach the hardware

Hardware commands are the ones with a physical effect: the smoke machines (SMOKE MACHINE 1 and 2), the electrical fault (ELECTRICAL FAILURE), seat belts, no portable, oxygen, emergency lights and the oxygen mask pulses. The remaining actions, such as sounds, calls or simulated doors, run on the app and on the FAP.

"This code does not belong to your account"

The code belongs to another license or the tablet is not the bound one. Use the installation code from your own configuration panel. Flightdemy global admins can access without a binding for support.

I do not see the faults I configured

Or the ones you disabled still appear. Confirm you saved in the Faults tab of the FAP iOS app configuration, not the FAP Trainer one: each app has its own configuration. Open the app with the correct code, because the configuration loads based on the link code. And hard refresh on the tablet: on iPad, clear the site cache from Settings, Safari.

The hardware dot is red

Open the panel by tapping the button and press retry connection. Verify the tablet and the controller are on the same router, and check in the FAP Trainer panel, Hardware, Controller, that the device is active and its last contact is recent.

No sound

Tap the screen once after opening the app, because browsers require a gesture to enable audio, and raise the tablet volume.
